U.S. History Course Information
U.S. History is a year-long graduation requirement in the Kern High School District and meets the UC/CSU A-F Requirements for History. This is a survey course of American History from Colonization through Contemporary Issues focusing mostly on events in the 19th and 20th Centuries. GVHS offers AP U.S. History, College Preparatory and General levels.
Textbook: The Americans
Resources: California Content Standards Handbook, Guided Reading Workbook
Testing: Students will take in-class Common Formative Assessments during each unit, Benchmark Exams at the end of each unit and the course concludes in March with the California Standards Tests administered statewide in April.
Grading:
Spiral Interactive Notebooks- 20%
In class assignments& projects- 20%
Tests & Exams- 40%
Final Exam/Project- 20%
Student grades are posted in class every Wednesday and students are encouraged to complete a weekly Grade Check form.
